PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Head of Finance role in the business is to act as a custodian of all financial data, ensuring accounting meets internationally recognised accounting standards and the companies act. The role also incorporates the provision of accurate and complete financial data to all stakeholders, the role is also responsible for the development of processes and internal controls within the financial ambit to help support the achievement of the organization's business goals.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Management of the Finance Function

  • Establish well defined internal controls to ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial data
  • Align the career development paths of the finance department to the goals of the company and to upskill where necessary to promote growth and retain staff
  • Operational and strategic management of the entire Finance function
  • Keep abreast of new accounting standards and implement accordingly
  • Develop a set of individual and team KPI’s which is used to manage performance and drives ownership and accountability
  • Manage individual staff performance using agreed company performance management system
  • Plan, direct, supervise, and coordinate work activities of the team in relation to all aspects of Finance

Reporting

  • To ensure the accurate and complete reporting of financials on a monthly basis
  • Review of monthly management accounts with a departmental view, complete with financial ratios and variance analysis
  • Review of monthly Stratco KPI stats on a monthly basis ensuring consistency, reliability, accuracy and completeness
  • Review of monthly debit recons and identify trends and implement controls to mitigate any negative variances
  • Review of new accounts opened and the control over the allocation of codes to correct accounts

Cashflow management

  • Preparation and monitoring of monthly cashflows
  • Communicating any cash constraints to management
  • Communicating any unforeseen future expenditure to Exco

Budgeting

  • Responsible for appropriate and relevant budgeting model
  • Communicate budgeted KPI’s to all stakeholders and actively manage these budgeted KPI’s against actual performance
  • Assist in the zero based budgeting process to be held for each department

Year end and Audit

  • Ensure yearend audit deliverables are completed and sent to the auditors
  • Review of financials, ensuring they are compliant with IFRS standards
  • Investigate and implement any new or proposed change in accounting policies and analyse its impact thereof.
  • Ensure audit deadline is met

Support

  • Support the business where applicable.
  • Performance of strategic ad hoc work as and when the need arises

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • CA(SA)
  • 5 years post article experience in a senior financial role
  • Insurance industry experience
  • Management experience is a MUST
  • Strong business process knowledge
  • Advanced excel skills

Preferred:

  • Financial director designate
